What is breast reduction surgery?
Simply put, a breast reduction makes your breasts smaller and a better fit for your body. The procedure can give patients a new lease of life as they are able to shed a burden that has been holding them back in many different ways.
Why have a breast reduction?
If you are concerned that your breasts are too big and out of proportion with the rest of your body, this can affect you both physically and emotionally. As well as difficulties joining in with certain sports and nagging problems like backache, you may also suffer from low self-esteem. As frustrated as you may feel about your breasts getting in the way of your ability to live life to the full, the decision to go ahead with surgery needs careful consideration. We would strongly encourage you to chat through any concerns you might have with one of our consultant surgeons or a member of our team of friendly advisors before you commit to a procedure.
Your breast reduction operation
A breast reduction is a straightforward procedure for your chosen consultant surgeon at BMI Healthcare, who will make a small cut under your breasts to remove some of the fatty tissues. To ensure the result looks completely natural, the nipples may also need to be re-positioned. The breast reduction operation will be performed under general anaesthetic and you will probably need to stay in hospital for a couple of nights afterwards.
Recovery
Your new breasts will look discoloured and feel swollen at first, but it won’t be long before you feel yourself again. You will notice some scarring after the operation, but the good news is that this will fade over time. We recommend you take a week off work to give your body a period of gentle recovery, and you should try to avoid any kind of strenuous activity, such as lifting young children, for the first fortnight.

There’s nothing worse than unexpected charges that you don’t find out about until after the event, and that’s why we make sure you know the full cost of your surgery before you make the decision to proceed. Our inclusive packages cover all the hospital charges for your stay, your consultant’s fees for the operation and one-follow-up consultation.

There is also the option to take advantage of the BMI Card which offers 12 months interest free credit, £20,000 credit, and a 48-hour approval for applications of up to £7,000.
