Hutchesons' 8, Clarkston 7.

HUTCHESONS' retained the Renfrewshire Cup against hard-working

Clarkston at Dumbreck. Their victory was deserved, if only because they

produced the running rugby on a firm pitch, and the approach brought

them two well-worked tries.

Clarkston's pack won more possession, but the link to their backs was

missing for most of the time, and right-winger John Price, possible

match-winner, virtually was ignored.

Hutchesons' moved 4-0 in front after five minutes when Gordon Darling

came into the line to create the overlap for Sandy McDougall. Clarkston

responded with a penalty by Steve McKean.

Slicker use of possession by Hutchesons' after the turn allowed fly

half Euan Baillie to keep them on the attack, with McDougall's second

try the only reward. Clarkston's Alan Carle, with a pushover try after

78 minutes, brought them to within one point, but McKean's conversion

attempt slipped wide.
