POLICE are investigating the death of Mrs Hilda Zavaroni, 47, mother

of Scots singer Lena Zavaroni, whose body was discovered in a house at

Bridge Street, Rothesay, yesterday.

A police spokesman said there were no apparent suspicious

circumstances. A post-mortem examination will be held on Monday.

The death of Mrs Zavaroni is the latest tragedy to hit the stop-start

singing career of the 26-year-old, who gained fame as a childhood

singing sensation after her discovery on Opportunity Knocks in 1973.

Her career promised much, with some critics reporting that she had

made a #1m within two years of her appearance on Opportunity Knocks.

However, she was beset by illness, including the slimmers' disease

anorexia nervosa.
