MANCHESTER City yesterday signed West Ham's highly rated midfielder

Mark Ward in a #1.25m players-plus-cash deal. City gained Ward, 27, and

cash in return for Trevor Morley and Ian Bishop joining Lou Macari at

Upton Park.

It's the second time City manager Howard Kendall and Ward have been

together. Kendall released him to Northwich Victoria in 1980 during his

stay at Everton, where Ward was an apprentice. Since then Ward's career

has blossomed, joining West Ham via Oldham and establishing himself as

one of the country's best midfielders.

Ward should make his City debut tomorrow at Maine Road against

Millwall, who last night signed Derby striker Paul Goddard for #800,000

subject to a medical.
