SCOTTISH nannie Carol McDonald was jailed for four years yesterday for

plotting to murder her rival in love.

After having sexual intercourse in London hotels, McDonald and Bruce

Santos, 22, would make ''death notes'' on ways to kill 19-year-old

Tracey Illman, the Old Bailey was told.

During the three-week trial, McDonald, 29, who pleaded guilty to

conspiracy to murder, gave evidence for the prosecution.

McDonald, of Main Street, Dailly, Ayrshire, was naive and unworldly,

said her counsel, Mr Andrew Trollope. She had conceived a passion for

Santos after an unhappy love affair in Scotland.

She had made the death lists but had taken no part in the murder.

The court was told that Santos and McDonald wanted Miss Illman, the

mother of Santos's five-month-old son, out of the way so they could set

up home together.

On Good Friday last year, in front of McDonald and his baby, Santos,

who pleaded not guilty and blamed McDonald for the murder, stabbed Miss

Illman 60 times. Later, he pretended to discover the body.

On Thursday he was jailed for life after being found guilty of murder.

McDonald said that when they went to the flat Santos shared with Miss

Illman she believed it was to collect his things. She was not expecting

violence.
