MOWLEM has won the (pounds) 7.6m contract to build Falkirk football club's new stadium at Westfield, Falkirk. Construction work began this week on the project, which includes car parking and leisure and hospitality areas. The contract was awarded following a competitive tender by Falkirk Community Stadium Limited, a joint venture between the local council and the club. The project is one of 18 schemes integral to the Falkirk action plan, which aims to transform the local economy. Yesterday's announcement will be viewed as timely amid continuing controversy
over whether Falkirk,
which lacks the 10,000-seater stadium required to play in the SPL, should be allowed up if they are promoted from the first division.
