Celtic League

GLASGOW Caledonians have been left with no option but to trim their squad for today's important Celtic League meeting with Bridgend at Aberdeen.

Head coach Richie Dixon's casualty count is so high that they will go into battle with only six men on the bench at Rubislaw - including two deputy scrum-halves.

Dixon is, however, boosted by the return of influential flanker Donnie McFadyen, while first-choice hooker Gavin Scott has shaken off the effects of the shoulder wrench which forced him to come off during last weekend's defeat at Swansea.

However, he still has sidelined Test stand-off Craig Chalmers, back-row man Marty Waite and centre Ian McInroy.

Reds manager David Jordan admitted: ''Our fitness problems don't seem to be getting any

better and rather than impose on the clubs, we have decided to do the best we can with our own resources.

''That means having both

Fraser Stott and Graeme

Beveridge among the replacements, even though they are both specialist scrum-halves.''

By stark contrast, Edinburgh Reivers chiefs have opted to resort to club assistance, with both Heriot's stand-off Gordon Ross and Gala utility forward Tom Weir being included in the squad for the trip to Neath.

They have winger Kenny

Milligan and centre Conan

Sharman back in action after injury, while Scott Welsh and Graeme Burns replace the World Cup half-backs who played in last weekend's home defeat by Newport at Kelso.

Prop Matt Proudfoot has, however, been ruled out after going down with a bout of flu. Teams:
