MORE than 100 new jobs will be created by the opening of the multi-million Glasgow headquarters of sportwear company Jacobs & Turner.

First Minister Donald Dewar yesterday opened the #10m plant in Glasgow's Kinning Park as

part of the company's strategy to diversify and expand in the US.

The company, best known for its Trespass branded snowboard and ski clothing, is aiming to sell casual clothes rather than just sportswear.

A spokesman said: ''Although it would be economically logical

for the company to move its headquarters to Europe, the Khushi family, which owns Jacobs & Turner, is proud of its Scottish roots and wants to keep the

company base in Glasgow.''
