Alex Caldwell has been suspended as manager of Elgin City and and faces disciplinary talks this week.
It emerged the club's board acted to ban the former Dundee and St Johnstone midfielder from Borough Briggs on Friday after an alleged clash with a young first team player two days earlier.
Caldwell, who took charge as Elgin gained entry to the Scottish Leagues two years ago, is refusing to comment on the action, while club officials are also remaining tight-lipped.
However, Elgin City sources confirmed yesterday that the alleged incident related to 18-year-old former Inverness Caledonian Thistle left-back Jordan MacDonald.
Neither Elgin general manager Harry McFadden, who took charge in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at home to Dumbarton, nor club chairman Denis Miller, the former Aberdeen vice-chairman, could be contacted yesterday.
Caldwell, assistant to Caley Thistle manager Steve Paterson when the Inverness club beat Celtic at Parkhead two seasons ago, has overseen a big improvement in team fortunes this campaign after a very poor start to third division life, but his reign has not been without controversy.
In March, his son, Mark, was banned from the club for a spell after shouting abuse at referee Ian Frickleton near the players' tunnel. At the time, Caldwell was outraged that the ban was imposed by Elgin officials in his absence and without his consultation.
Within the last fortnight, Elgin also took action against their last remaining local first-team
player, Michael Morrison, after an alleged incident involving the player in the Elgin Social Club. Morrison has now joined
nearby Highland League side Lossiemouth.
