Anne Lorne Gillies, the SNP prospective parliamentary candidate for the Western Isles, surprised her supporters yesterday after opening the party's new offices in Stornoway, by telling them that she was getting married during the election campaign.

After cutting a tartan ribbon she thanked the office-bearers and those who had helped to get the new headquareters ready on time for the election campaign. Then she announced she will marry 42-year-old Kevin Bree, the

Glasgow-based outside broadcasting manager for Scottish Television.

Mr Bree, who comes originaly from Sligo, is a divorcee, like his fiancee. He has a grown-up family of four and Anne has three grown-up daughters. The wedding will be in Glasgow next Thursday.

Asked if there would be a honeymoon, she replied: ''Many of Kevin's relatives will be coming over from Ireland, so we will be spending the weekend with them.''
