THE Japanese-born principal dancer of the troubled Scottish Ballet company will today be awarded an honorary OBE.

Miss Noriko Ohara, above, who joined the company in 1976, has received acclaim as a dancer throughout the world.

She said: ''I never dreamt I would receive such an award. I didn't realise I could, as I was born in Japan. I deeply appreciate Scotland's acceptance of my work - and me. It is a great honour.''

Miss Ohara will be presented with the award by Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar on behalf of the Queen at a ceremony in Edinburgh.
