Allan Cartner, former television presenter; born December 13, 1933, died October 24, 1997

Allan Cartner and his voice were reassuring signs of normality in households throughout the Borders, Cumbria, the Isle of Man, and South-west Scotland.

A native of Carlisle, he was educated at Durham University, where he graduated BA.

In 1957 he began his broadcasting career as a cameraman with the BBC at its Lime Grove studios in London. Allan later worked from Manchester until he applied for a job at Border. In 1988 Border put out signals that it was updating its image, and Allan resigned abruptly to undertake freelance work with Tyne Tees Television.

Allan Cartner is survived by his wife Terri, a son and a daughter.
