Robbie Coltrane is selling the 1951 Cadillac in which he made his epic trip across America for the TV programme Coltrane in a Cadillac.

The actor and comedian expects to get between #18,000 and #24,000 for the black two-door convertible with maroon interior at a Brooks car sale at London's Olympia on December 2.

The ''Caddy'' was the star's faithful companion on the journey across the United States. However, lack of preparation time meant that the car occasionally went wrong.

''But Mr Coltrane assures us that since then all necessary remedial work has been carried out,'' said Malcolm Barber of Brooks yesterday.

The Cadillac boasts new headlamps, dynamo, battery, tyres and triple-plated chrome.

'''She now drives as good as she looks', as they say in Detroit,'' said Mr Barber.

Only just over 6100 Series 62 convertibles were built for 1951 and the car is rated as a ''five-star investment'' by the Cadillac Collectors' Guide.

The car is offered with a book and video of Coltrane in a Cadillac.
