Twang, twang/Gosh, are Alabama 3 still going? /Twang twang/Yes, their popularity surged after doing the Sopranos theme tune (Woke Up This Morning). As acid-country verse goes, this isn't great (especially the parenthesis), though it does encapsulate the recent history of the self-styled, London-based Scottish outlaws.

Now, however, they're back with new album, Outlaw, which retains all their staples - bluegrass, blues, country, techno, Americana, sinister leanings - but is rumoured to be more coherent than previous records.

It is intended, conceptually, as an anti-Robin Hood account of the outlaw and takes as its focus the great train robbery. The band's selective romanticisation of criminals probably means there'll be no mention of Jonathan Aitken or Lord Archer.
