SCOTLAND'S leading harp player and teacher for almost half a century,

Ms Sanchia Pielou, has died after a lengthy illness.

Born in Eire, she was one of the founding members of the BBC Scottish

Symphony Orchestra in 1935 and continued playing until 1980.

She taught both the concert harp and Celtic harp at the Royal Scottish

Academy of Music and Drama for most of her career, and was made a fellow

of the academy.

Ms Pielou, who was in her early 80s, was predeceased by her second

husband, Mr Norman Macey.
