THE award of eight research fellowships to scientists in Scottish

universities has been announced by the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

BP research fellowships go to Dr Philippa Gardner, of the department

of computer science at Edinburgh University, and Dr Miles Padgett, of

the department of physics and astronomy at St Andrews.

Dr Lynne Cox, of the department of biochemistry at Dundee University,

receives a Caledonian Research Foundation personal research fellowship,

and Dr Tom Brown, of the department of chemistry at Edinburgh

University, is the recipient of a support fellowship from the same

foundation.

Scottish Office Education Department personal research fellowships go

to Dr Nigel Botting, of the department of chemistry at St Andrews, and

Dr Jason Crain, of the department of physics at Edinburgh University.

Support fellowships from the SED have been awarded to Dr Rona Belford,

of the department of applied chemical and physical sciences at Napier

University, and Dr Clivia Sotomayor-Torres, of the department of

electronics and electrical engineering at Glasgow University.
