THE family of a cyclist who was killed by a driver in Edinburgh nearly 30 years ago have spoken of their disgust after the same driver walked free from court after killing a second cyclist in the city.

Gary McCourt, 49, was found guilty last month of causing the death by careless driving of 75-year-old Audrey Fyfe, in August 2011, when he knocked her from her bicycle at a road junction.

Last week at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, McCourt was given a five-year driving ban and 300 hours of community service by Sheriff James Scott.

After the trial, the court heard McCourt had a previous conviction for causing the death of George Dalgity, 22, by reckless driving, in 1985. Mr Dalgity died from massive injuries after McCourt knocked him off his bicycle in Regent Road.

Mr Dalgity's sister Ann said the leniency of Sheriff Scott's sentence was "just disgusting".
