THE result of Scotland's first venture between a community and a wind-farm developer opens today, after locals contributed almost £1 million.
The people of Neilston in East Renfrewshire bought a 28% share in the £15.6m wind farm with partners Carbon Free Developments.
Neilston Development Trust (NDT) raised £950,000 to buy their stake, loaned by the Scottish Government and other organisations.
It will give Neilston about £10m of income over the life-time of the development.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will officially open the Neilston Community Wind Farm.
She said: "This Government is focused on supporting community ownership of renewable energy so that communities can share the rewards of Scotland's vast natural resources."
