CYCLISTS and pedestrians are to be given priority in a major revamp of Leith Walk in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh City Council said its new design would make the thoroughfare more cycle- and pedestrian- friendly.
The plan includes sections of uninterrupted cycle space, redesigned junctions, narrower roads with frequent zebra crossings, and a design that supports slower speeds.
The council hopes to unclutter the streetscape and provide better connectivity for sustainable forms of travel between the waterfront and the city centre.
Lesley Hinds, transport and environment convener, said the plan "prompted a lot of interesting debate, and we are pleased that there was such overwhelming support for the plans".
Charlotte Encombe, chairwoman of Greener Leith, said: "We are also delighted that officers and councillors have included local people's priorities for the street and have made real changes to the design.
"We look forward to collaborating on the detail of the designs as the project moves forwards."
A drop-in session to view the design in detail will be held at McDonald Road Library on Tuesday, July 23, from 2pm and 8pm .
