POLICE have been accused of failing to investigate a racist attack on a Glasgow taxi driver two days after Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in London.

Campaigner and solicitor Aamer Anwar yesterday claimed the national Scottish force had failed to follow up the assault of a private hire driver. Officers attended after the man reported he had been attacked on Friday, May, 24. However, Mr Anwar said they had not visited the alleged victim since.

He said: "Police Scotland have at best failed in their duty of care to the victim and at worst are guilty of institutional racism and systematic failure to investigate a serious crime.

"The insensitive treatment of any victim of crime by police officers is totally unacceptable."

In a formal letter of complaint to the new force, he said the alleged victim had been assaulted after being called to pick up a fare at La Cala pub in Dennistoun.

Mr Anwar said he feared those responsible for the crime would escape justice.

Police Scotland said the complaint had been forwarded to the chief constable, Sir Stephen House.

A spokeswoman added: "Inquiries are continuing. We encourage the reporting of all hate crimes."
