A teenager has been arrested in connection with a racist attack on a Polish man.

The 41-year-old was walking home via Niddrie House Square, Edinburgh, on Sunday afternoon when a group of youths allegedly shouted racist remarks and threw stones at him.

He was allegedly punched in the face and needed hospital treatment for a number of cuts and grazes.

Police appealed for witnesses in the local area and have now arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy over the incident.

Sergeant Kevin Smith said: "We are pleased to say that police received a good response from the public following an appeal and a significant witness came forward.

"Inquiries are still ongoing but officers are following a positive line of inquiry to trace the others involved."

A report is to be sent to the Scottish Children's Reporter.
