YOUNG leaders from across Scotland are being invited to join the youth wing of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Established in 2011, the Young Academy of Scotland, opened applications to new members last week.

It encourages collaboration between emerging leaders in science and humanities, the professions, the arts, business and civil society.

It also aims to provide a platform for able and innovative young entrepreneurs, professionals and academics to develop a coherent and influential voice, and to address the most challenging issues facing Scottish society.

Neil Mclennan, YAS member and education service manager at Aberdeen City Council, said: "Being a member of the Young Academy of Scotland has given me the opportunity to contribute to public good by assisting some of the country's best professionals to engage effectively in education improvement."
