A SCOTTISH man has become a Knight in the Kingdom of Cambodia for his services to landmine clearance in the country.
Alistair Moir, from Prestwick, was given the title of Officer in the Royal Order of Sahametrei on April 4 — the international Landmine Awareness Day.
Mr Moir is country director of the charity Mines Advisory Group in Cambodia and has been working to clear the country of concealed explosives for almost three years.
He said: "It is a tremendous honour to receive the Royal Order of Sahametrei and I am extremely flattered to have been selected for such an esteemed award."
The Royal Order of Sahametrei is a medal of honour conferred primarily on foreigners who have rendered distinguished services to Cambodia.
Bill Longhurst, British Ambassador to Cambodia, said: "The UK Embassy is proud to see British charity MAG receive such an honour from the Royal Government of Cambodia."
