THE Proclaimers will sing Sunshine on Leith to close a colourful celebration of the life of Margo MacDonald in Edinburgh today.

Craig and Charlie Reid will play their hit, one of the late MSP's favourite songs, in honour of her lifelong love of Hibs FC. Their rendition, made all the more poignant as Ms MacDonald's daughter Petra is married to Craig Reid, will bring to a close a public memorial service at the Kirk's General Assembly Hall this morning. Friends, family members and colleagues from the Independent Lothian MSP's long political career have been asked to wear bright colours at her request. They will arrive on The Mound to the sound of some of her favourite country and western tunes. Dr Bob Scott, a humanist celebrant, will open the service and introduce the main speakers. They will be led by Alex Neil, the Health Secretary, and actress Elaine C Smith, both close friends. The final speaker will be her husband, former SNP MP Jim Sillars.

Ms MacDonald, who had Parkinson's disease, died earlier this month at the age of 70. A private family funeral took place last week.
