A STRADIVARIUS which once belonged to Alfonso Marconi, brother of the radio pioneer Guglielmo, has sold for £624,000 - more than three times the pre-sale estimate - at Sotheby's.

A Guarneri violin once owned by Edinburgh arts patron Tertia Liebenthal went for £336,000.
