Unsigned Scottish talent will have a chance to shine when the Danny Kyle Open Stage returns to Paisley's Spree festival from October 9-17. Music from the stage – named after the Paisley-born folk singer and made famous at Celtic Connections – will be broadcast live on Celtic Music Radio, with free performances beginning at 5pm every weekday in the Spiegeltent in County Square.
The best acts will be invited back for a final-night showcase on Friday October 16, with the overall winner receiving a full-day recording session in Paisley's Brick Lane Studios and two runners-up invited to play a session on Celtic Music Radio.

A short series of Music On The Lawn concerts in Glasgow's Hidden Gardens concludes this weekend with a performance by SAW Band. The duo, comprising vocalist Yusuf Yare and oud player Sultan Alishire, will be joined by guest percussionist Oliver Pitt from Glasgow band Golden Teacher for a programme of Somali folklore music and North African jazz.
The hour-long concert in The Hidden Gardens, located beside Tramway on Albert Drive, begins at 1pm and is free and unticketed.
SAW Band was formed in 2008 by the late singer and peace activist Saado Ali Warsame, who was assassinated in Mogadishu in July 2014 not long after being elected to the Somali parliament.

A packed programme of anime films – many receiving European and UK premieres – will dominate the screen as the sixth Scotland Loves Anime festival comes to GFT (October 9-11), Filmhouse (October 12-19) and, for the first time, Aberdeen's Belmont Filmhouse (October 24 and 25).
Among the highlights is Miss Hokusai, pictured, the story of a female painter in 19th-century Japan. Winner of the Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Miss Hokusai has its UK premiere at GFT at 5pm on Friday October 9, with director Keiichi Hara participating in a post-screening Q&A.
Other must-see movies include Empire Of Corpses, which itself isn't released in Japan until next month, box-office smash Dragonball Z: Resurrection F and the brand-new Ghost In The Shell: The Movie.
