A rescue operation has been launched after a paraglider crashed in to a cliff following a mid-air collision with another paraglider above the Isle of Arran.

One of the paragliders managed to land safely after the collision.

However the other crashed into the cliff at Catacal on the Isle of Arran, and was left injured and suspended out of reach.

The Belfast Coastguard sent the Arran Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene of the incident, which happened at 4pm yesterday.

The Royal Navy Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick also attended along with the Scottish Air Ambulance and police.

Members of Arran Mountain Rescue team were transferred to the cliff top by the rescue helicopter to where they assisted the male paraglider using cliff rescue equipment.
