Accdording to the Police Scotland website, new recruitment policies have relaxed the manditory requirement for applications to hold a full UK driving license.

According to their website yesterday, the new policy statement reads:

"From today (29 October 2015), holding a full UK drivers licence will no longer be essential criteria to join Police Scotland as a police officer.

This decision was taken as part of the ongoing review to modernise Police Scotland’s recruitment processes, as the requirement to have a driving licence is undoubtedly a barrier which prevents some people from applying to become a police officer.

Speaking about the change Recruiting Manager Lesley Thomson said:

"The decision was taken to remove the drivers licence as it adversely affected the ability of specific groups of people from applying.

"Police officers should reflect the communities they protect and we are confident that this decision will remove one of the major reasons why some people don’t apply and improve accessibility for those considering a career in policing.""
