MURDER squad detectives are closing in on the suspected killer of a man who was butchered in a bloodbath attack.

The 48-year-old was discovered with severe knife wounds when cops and ambulance crews raced to the scene on Friday morning.

The Evening Times has learned police are now following a "definite line of inquiry".

Paramedics tried desperately to revive the victim but he was declared dead soon afterwards in Midcroft Avenue, Croftfoot.

Emergency services were called at around 2.30am after the alarm was raised.

Cops who were called to reports of a "disturbance" in the residential street arrived to find the man's butchered body lying in front of a house.

A source close to the police investigation said: "He basically died as emergency services arrived.

"His injuries were so serious that any help would have been too late."

Police confirmed a "suspicious" death probe had been launched but remained tight-lipped about details of any potential suspects.

A white forensic tent was set up in the street, near to Castlemilk Road, and the area remained taped off as police swarmed the area for clues.

Sources said the man may have suffered stab wounds, however a post mortem examination is due to take place.

Detectives are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and any witnesses have been urged to come forward.
