Sauchiehall Street is now one of Glasgow’s busiest shopping streets, but it has a rich history.
In the past century, it has changed a lot, and we have had a look through our picture archives to show you just how different it once was.
From the 1930s to 2016, shops have come and gone, and many important events have taken place. For example, pictured above is the 1959 march, consisting of about 4000 people, protesting against the H-bomb.

Sauchiehall Street has also been home to many notable buildings such as the Beresford Hotel (Glasgow’s first “skyscraper”), built in an Art Deco style in 1938 for the Empire Exhibition, which is now divided into flats.
The Glasgow Empire Theatre was also on the famous street, and its final curtain closed in 1963.
