POLICE probing the shooting of Euan Johnston say a dark car was seen speeding on Balmore Road close to where another car was torched.
They said information on the car could be "significant" to their inquiry into the murder of the father-of-one last week.
They also revealed three men were seen running onto Balmore Road shortly before midnight on the night of the shooting.
Mr Johnston, 26, and a friend had been eating in the Red Pepper Indian restaurant and were returning home when the attack happened when they were sitting in the car at traffic lights on Shields Road near to its junction with Scotland Street.
Police said the dark car was seen near where a burnt-out Audi Q5, believed to have been involved, was found. That car had been taken from Parklands Country Club, Newton Mearns, in May and fake registration plates had been used on it.
Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr, the senior investigating officer said: "We have received information on a dark-coloured car, possibly a Volkswagen Golf, being driven at speed in Balmore Road around 12.05am on Wednesday November 16. This was near to the area where the Audi Q5 was set on fire.
"We are also working to identify three men seen running onto Balmore Road near the disused railway line shortly before midnight on the night of the shooting.
“At this time we do not know if the vehicle is linked to the murder inquiry, but we cannot rule anything out. We are currently studying CCTV footage from the Balmore Road and Parkhouse areas and will be carrying out further enquiries in the area to gather more information. There are additional officers on patrol to provide public reassurance, and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to officers.
“In terms of the Audi Q5, I would ask people to think about whether they may have seen an Audi Q5 for sale at a reduced or discounted price, or if an Audi Q5 was offered to you for sale. The Q5 was stolen in May 2016 with original plates - SW62 NGU, however it’s unlikely the car was being sold with its original plates and more than likely had the registration number of VN61 LZA – which was the registration plate used at the time of the shooting."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room through 101 or on 0141 532 4128.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
