A man whose body was recovered from a fast flowing burn has been named as retired university lecturer Ron Thomson.

Dr Thomson, 66, and his wife, Maris, from Glasgow, had been to a cheese and wine evening at Kilchrenan Village Hall, in Argyll, on Saturday night but became separated as they walked back to a friend’s house in the dark.

The couple had driven to Kilchrenan in their camper van, and were planning to stay overnight with a local couple.

Dr Thomson’s body was found in Kilchrenan Burn, a short distance from Mr and Mrs Condie’s house, at about 5.25am on Sunday by search teams.

Dr Thomson is survived by two sons from his first marriage.

It is not being treated as suspicious.
