CUSTOMERS were left disappointed when a popular health food shop and deli shut in the west end of the city back in 2013.

Grassroots Organics in Woodlands Road closed its doors after 36 years in business, which left regular shoppers disappointed and shocked.

The shop and deli were known for serving healthy vegetarian and vegan food.

However, a vegan and vegetarian cafe has moved in its place which is set to delight health fanatics.

Grassroots Cafe announced it is set to open at the spot at 20 Woodlands Road.

The team behind the new cafe are completely seperate from those who ran the previous Grassroots Organics.

New signage has been put up and the business has promised to offer a range of organic and wholefoods.

There will also be a range of fresh fruit smoothies and cold pressed juices.

Jaspreet Matharu, the owner of Grassroots Cafe said: "I always admired the ethos of the previous Grassroots Organics and Cafe and as a vegetarian myself I have always felt there is a lack of decent places around Glasgow to eat out.

"As well as doing usual cafe food such as sandwiches, baked potatoes and coffees, we will also have a mix of other cultural foods.

"We hope to open by September this year."
