Gas production at a major plant at Sullom Voe could be suspended if strike action goes ahead.

About 80 workers with Aker Solutions at Total's Shetland Gas Plant have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in a pay dispute.

John Boland, regional organiser of the Unite trade union, "No one wants to take industrial action, but after seven months of stalling from Aker we had no option but to run this industrial action ballot."

More talks between Unite and Aker’s management are planned on Monday and the company said it hopes to bring the dispute to a “resolution”.

The plant opened last year and takes in gas from the Laggan-Tormore fields west of Shetland.
