So Neil McCann, who had skipper Darren O’Dea sent off in the last 15 minutes and who will now miss Friday’s game against Rangers, was pleased with a point.

He said: "Towards the end, when you go down to ten men, you are just fearing the worst.

"Elliot's had a super save and we've kept our first clean sheet of the season, which we're really pleased about.

"I felt we dominated large parts of the match without really penetrating too much. But credit to Kilmarnock, I felt they defended well.

"It ends up it's a good point, a fair point. I know there was one off the bar at the end but overall a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.”

"I've got no complaints about the red card. Josh Meekings was able to come on and I felt we needed him just to try to see the game out.

"It's always tough when you go down to ten men and with Killie shooting down that wee bit of a slope it almost encourages them to throw balls into the box.

"But I felt that today against a really good side in terms of their organisation to come away from home and get big results, we contained them for a lot of the game and I'm pleased with the point.

"I'm really happy for them because they've been working hard to keep a clean sheet and now we have to start building and looking to get three points instead of one."

Kilmarnock were scarcely troubled all day and manager Steve Clarke knows it was a game they might have won.

He said: “We had a couple of big chances at the end, Lee Erwin was one on one with the goalkeeper and you would expect him to score and then Eamon hit the bar with a header.

“So, we could have nicked it at the end. On the balance of chances created by Dundee and the ones we had we can probably feel hard-done by.”
