Scotland’s long-standing partnership with Malawi has been celebrated at Holyrood with an address by the president of the African nation.

His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika spoke in the Scottish Parliament’s chamber yesterday.

Both the president and the First Minister highlighted the mutual benefits of the two nations’ relationship. President Mutharika said: “The Malawi Scotland partnership has become one of the strongest relationships in the world.”

He said such a relationship was “rare and precious” in a world where poor countries can be “exploited” by those who claim to support them.
