THE Youtuber behind the Nazi dog viral video has revealed he has not paid his court fine and has donated the money to charity instead.

Mark Meechan, 30, was fined £800 after being found guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court of communicating a video which was deemed to be "grossly offensive".

However, he revealed on Twitter that instead of paying the money to the court, he has now given the cash to Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

Mr Meechan, from Coatbridge, posted a copy of a thank you note from the charity and wrote: "Oh dear, I went to pay my fine and my finger must have slipped. Silly me."

The note from the charity, signed by the director of fundraising, states: "On behalf of all of our children, please accept our most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of £800.

"You donation will help us to ensure that the 160,000 babies, children and young people treated at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow every year receive the best possible care."

Mr Meechan, known by his online moniker of Count Dankula, was convicted after releasing a video showing him training his dog to Sieg Heil and react to the phrase "gas the Jews".

Herald View: Mark Meechan case raises difficult questions around freedom of speech

The 'M8 Yer Dugs A Nazi' clip, which features his pug Buddha, has been viewed online more than three million times.

Mr Meechan claims it was meant as a joke to wind up his girlfriend and argues that the legal case against him raises issues about freedom of speech.

He plans to appeal his conviction and has raised more than £150,000 on gofundme.com to help with legal costs.
