Govan Old Parish Church is the home to three stunning concerts by Govan’s own orchestra - The Glasgow Barons. Launched in June 2017, The Glasgow Barons, Govan’s own orchestra, was set up by Music Director and Conductor Paul MacAlindin. The Glasgow Barons’ goal is for everyone to enjoy making and listening to live music in Govan, an area of multiple deprivation.

Since launching, The Glasgow Barons have been involved with an inaugural concert in the church last year as well as community and school music projects. Its first season of concerts, to be held in May, June and July -  Serenades of Govan Old - will be held in the beautiful surroundings of Govan’s historical Old Parish Church, home of the Govan Stones. The Glasgow Barons will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Govan Reminiscence Group by creating new songs with award-winning young folk singers, Ainsley Hamill and Norrie MacIver. In addition the Barons will play a range of classical pieces starting with Vivaldi's vibrant and vivacious Four Seasons with London soloist, David Juritz. The season will include compositions by Alasdair Nicolson and Bill Sweeney with the majestic and heartfelt Serenades of Elgar, Tchaikovsky and Dvořák bridging all three concerts. Future projects include: The Glasgow Barons will create three projects in the community: Musicians in Exile for asylum seekers who were musicians in their home culture; Strings and Drums, a series of drumming workshops for local risk at-teens; and Govan High Composers, helping pupils write their own music.

The Glasgow Barons first concert of the season is this evening, Thursday 3rd May at 7.30  Tickets £3, available on the door.
