Five Scottish athletes have been included in the 42-strong Team GB for the 2018 Youth Olympics, which will take place in Buenos Aires from the 6-18th October.

Almost 4000 young athletes aged between 14 and 18 from 206 nations will take part in the third edition of the Games, with GB sending athletes to compete in 17 of the 32 sports.

Newly-crowned Youth Sailing World Champion Islay Watson from Aviemore, who will compete in the windsurfing event, said: It’s going to be an amazing experience and to get picked to go is a real honour. Because I won the Youth World Champs this year I think I will have a bit of a target on my back. It could be anyone’s win.”

The other Scots who have been selected for Team GB are badminton player Chris Grimley, mountain bikers Sean Flynn and Anna McGorum and triathlete, Calum Young.
