TWO thugs turned on a woman after battering a man in one of the East End's busiest streets.

Cops are investigating the street fight which happened on Sunday afternoon Alexandra Parade, Dennistoun.

The force said a 57-year-old man and the woman, aged 46, were walking along Alexandra Parade near to Meadowpark Street when they were approached by two men at 5.20 pm.

Words appeared to have been exchanged and the violent thugs initially punched and kicked the man before turning on the woman when she intervened.

The attack took place in the middle of the road and forced several vehicles to stop.

The woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to facial and eye injuries and later released. The man's injuries are described as superficial.

The men responsible are described as being white male, aged in their late 20s and slim build. One of them had ginger hair and was wearing a blue jacket. The other had dark hair and was wearing a cream hooded top.

They both made off in the direction of Meadowpark Street.

Detective Constable Graham Clarke is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "This violent and unprovoked attack took place in broad daylight in a very busy area of Glasgow. I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the assaults to get in touch with me as a matter of urgency."
