One road user complained on social media about the closure.

The force added: "Ther incident is ongoing and there's no definitive time of conclusion. We don't take the decision to close a major route such as this lightly."

The closure comes as thousands of runners prepare to travel into Glasgow for the Great Scottish Run today.

Traffic was starting to build up in the area at around 8am this morning.

Motorists were advised to use an alternative route.
