TWO people have been awarded the Golden Spurtle trophy at the World Porridge Making Championships.

Calle Myrsell and Per Carlsson, both from Sweden, were given the title at the event at Carrbridge in the Cairngorms.

It is the first time in the competition’s 25-year history that more than one person has won.

Competitors come from all over the world to take part in the cooking competition.

Ellinor Persson, also a Swedish porridge maker, won the Golden Spurtle last year. The championships are organised by Carrbridge Community Council.

The finalists included two Swedes, and one each from the USA, Ireland, England and Scotland.

The 30 competitors included a Russian café owner, a Finnish pastry chef, a French architect and a Canadian mother-of-two who cooks porridge for her family every day.

Organisers said the standard rises every year.
