SCOTTISH Chambers of Commerce has appointed four prominent business figures as directors in a move it said strengthened its position as an influential network.

The new directors are: Stuart Cresswell, who leads Associated British Ports’ operations in Scotland; Poonam Gupta, founder and chief executive of PG Paper; mobile communications entrepreneur Colin Loveday, who heads the 4G Mobile and Predict Mobile businesses; Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Val Russell.

Scottish Chambers of Commerce president Tim Allan said he was delighted to welcome four dynamic and talented business figures to the organisation’s board.

“Poonam, Stuart, Colin and Val have exceptional business acumen, strategic vision and leadership that will enable the Scottish Chambers Network to rise to the challenge of driving the Scottish economy forward,” noted Mr Allan.

He added: “The Board will continue to focus on its business growth priorities including, the acceleration of plans to rapidly expand the ability of Scottish businesses to export, tackling the stubborn challenge of skills shortages in key sectors and creating a business-friendly environment ... in Scotland.”

Ms Russell said: “SCC plays a critical role in amplifying the voice of the business community.”
