TALENTED beauty students from Widnes have secured top places in a UK-wide competition.

Beauty, media makeup and nails students from Riverside College in Kingsway are preparing for the WorldSkills UK finals at the NEC Birmingham later this month.

The competition assesses apprentices’ and students’ practical skills, knowledge and employability attributes in competitive timed conditions.

The students, who all placed in the top three of the regional competition and qualified for the national finals, are now working hard to plan their new designs after receiving the detailed brief for the finals.

Emma Littler will compete in media makeup, Destiny Fryer in beauty and Chloe Woolliscroft and Claire Swift in nails.

Kesley Horn placed second and was in the top eight for the country, but won't be attending the finals.

Lyn Rhodes, head of the centre of excellence in hair, beauty, nails and media makeup at Riverside College said: "The students all did extremely well in the regional competition earlier this year.

"We are delighted with their success and wish them the best of luck in the finals."
