Kieran Tierney just edges Andy Robertson for me in terms of the level both players are at just now.

There always seems to be a debate now whenever the two are in the Scotland squad about how they play together or who goes where – an argument that is redundant this time around after Tierney was forced to withdraw.

But they are both excellent players. Robertson is playing consistently at a higher level given the demands of the English Premier League but defensively I think Tierney edges it while I also think he is more powerful.

There’s not much in it but if you look at where Tierney is just now and how he is progressing, for me he will become as legendary a Celtic full-back as the greats such as Danny McGrain and Tommy Gemmell. And I don’t say that lightly.

If he maintains where he is just now then who knows where he foes. I think he is loving life at Celtic and certainly in terms of his immediate future, I just don’t see him going anywhere.

But he is most certainly heading to being one of the really influential full-backs in the history of the club. He seems comfortable at any level.

I do suspect that he is going to be asked to play at right-back tomorrow night. I think he is exceptional at left-back and decent at right-back but given the number of players who have withdrawn from the squad then I would guess that because he has been asked to play there before that he will be expected to slot back in there.

You would expect that there will be a number of Celtic players starting the game against Albania tomorrow and then against Israel on Tuesday and although there is a lot made of taking their winning mentality from Celtic into Scotland, it isn’t always quite as easy as that.

They need help from the other guys around them. Everyone needs to be able to chip in and get the results that they need.
