One of Africa's greatest ever players has not ruled out making a sensational move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Former Manchester City captain Yaya Toure made just five appearances for Olympiacos before having his contract torn up at the Greek club.

News media in Greece reported that Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing the free agent.

Rodgers was reportedly liaising with the player via his brother Kolo, who is now a coach at Parkhead.

Now the four-time African Footballer of the Year has spoken for the first time about the link.

He said: "Celtic is a great team. Let me speak with Brendan, then we will see."

He then suggested his brother might find a role for him adding: "We'll see, we'll see."

He went on: "You never know, maybe I could end up in Scotland, or England... or maybe France, anyway, I want a choice to maybe play one more year at a high level and after that I will decide where I will go."

The midfielder, who spoke about the link on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football won three Premier League titles in eight years at City.

But last year, he hit out at Pep Guardiola claiming he had a “problem with black players” – adding Barcelona players felt that way too.

Kolo Toure starred for Celtic for the 2016/17 season, when Brendan Rodgers steered his side to domestic success without losing a single game.

Yaya Toure has amassed 101 caps for his country over the last 14 years, captaining his country at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
