THE landmark former College of Building and Printing tower, which was covered with a huge ‘People Make Glasgow’ graphics wrap for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, has been acquired by property developer Osborne+Co.

Osborne+Co and joint venture partner Scotsbridge Holdings plan to create Grade A office space and serviced apartments through a major refurbishment of City of Glasgow College’s former buildings at 60 North Hanover Street. The buildings have been bought from City of Glasgow College.

The college now operates out of City Campus on Cathedral Street and Riverside Campus, on the Clyde.

Osborne+Co said it had appointed Glasgow-based architect Cooper Cromar and planning consultant Savills to advance the refurbishment project. It added that the project was expected to generate hundreds of jobs for the construction industry.

A proposal of application notice has been submitted to Glasgow City Council for the proposed mixed-use development.

Will Hean, development director at Osborne+Co, said: “This acquisition will allow us to capitalise on Glasgow’s current supply demand imbalance, with the market currently characterised by a dearth of flexible Grade A office space and significant pent-up occupier demand.”

Osborne+Co is also investing £95 million in a 283,000 sq ft Grade A office development at Argyle Street in Glasgow. It noted that this site, in the international financial services district, had lain vacant for 20 years.
