The death of a man whose body was found near potentially dangerous substances in a house is being treated as unexplained.

Police were called to the property in Balfour Street, Kirkcaldy, on Tuesday evening and discovered the body of a 37-year-old man.

A bomb disposal squad was also called out after "potentially volatile and flammable items" were found at the property in the Fife town.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated while emergency services dealt with the incident but residents were later allowed to return home.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Fife attended at an address in Balfour Street, Kirkcaldy, at around 6.05pm on Tuesday 15 January following a report of concern for a person.
