COUNCILLORS have agreed to move forward with plans to transfer ownership of Govanhill Baths to a trust.
A committee meeting this morning saw the decision made unanimously with no comments or objections.
As told in the Evening Times, this is a vital next step for the plans to turn the former Baths into a £6.5 million health and wellbeing centre.
Community campaigners have fought for 17 years to turn the building into an asset for the area.
It was closed in 2001 by Glasgow City Council despite protests locally against the move.
Govanhill Community Baths Trust has worked to raise the £6,532,000 needed to reopen the Calder Street venue.
The Managing Director of City Property will be asked to negotiate terms and conditions for an off-market sale of the building to Govanhill Baths Building Preservation Trust.
A further report will go to committee with the full terms of the sale to Govanhill Baths Building Preservation Trust.
The building should reopen in 2020.
