While the 'New Year, New You' craze encourages us to improve ourselves and make changes in our lives, it can also add more pressure and elicit a feeling of low self-worth. To avoid this, there are simple steps you can take, with the help of some firms, to encourage more fulfilling and longer lasting positive effects. From volunteering to wellbeing, here are some companies willing to help you start your journey…

Volunteer Glasgow

There are 100s of volunteering opportunities in Glasgow looking for people like you to help.

Evidence shows that people who volunteer are healthier, happier and more employable. It can help you become more confident, meet new people, build your CV and be part of something that makes a difference.

Without volunteers many organisations, charities, community groups and clubs would not be able to provide the services that support young people, children and some of the most vulnerable people in our city.

There’s a huge variety of activities you can get involved in, from administration, childcare, shop work to sport and some opportunities only need a few hours each month.

If you are looking to improve your employment prospects, you could join Volunteer Glasgow's Volunteering Works Program, which is an employability program that promotes volunteering as a pathway to work.

You can drop in to the city centre office during opening hours (Tuesdays & Wednesday 9.30-4.30; and Thursday 9.30-6.00) and search online using their internet PCs with help and guidance from an adviser. Alternatively you can open an account and search directly for opportunities on the website at www.volunteerglasgow.org, allowing you to get in touch with organisations looking for volunteers.

If you would like to talk with Volunteer Glasgow or have any questions, then email info@volunteerglasgow.org  or give them a call during office hours on 0141 226 3431, or just drop in to the office.
